E17: THE FACE OF THE PEOPLE THAT NEED YOU!

In collaboration with Create Jobs and Magnum Photos a brief was set by itsnicethat to photograph ‘What is your London?’

E17 Walthamstow is London for me. For me London has always been the communities and people it holds. I wanted to photograph the people of the High street. The people who still have a smile on their faces even when it’s chucking down with rain. The people that greet one another as if we knew each other since birth, and the people who still manage to be there even when times are tough - the market traders and shopkeepers.

Being able to grow up on the High street and be a shopkeeper myself I have the privilege to get to see people come and go and occasionally get the inside scoop. The High street has always been a staple centre of Walthamstow and it wouldn’t be the same without them. Because of my position in the market i’m able to hear the worries and concerns they have. A big issue they face is the political issue: Brexit. Which has cause some market traders to leave due to increase in imports. Making it harder to sell and compete with more established businesses.

With all of this in mind instead of dwelling on the negatives I wanted to give them a chance to celebrate everything they’ve done. and the friends and memories they have created.

This artwork was created

and feature in the

exhibition

To top off the celebration one of the images was featured on the billboard near Old Street Station.
